Resistance thermometers are an innovative type of temperature sensor that track thermal energy as a function of electrical resistance. To do this, a pure metal element is required. This element is usually copper (Cu) or platinum (Pt), with a proportional and precise relationship between electrical resistance and temperature.
Resistance thermometers operate similarly to a typical thermocouple. They obtain thermal energy from a process environment and relate the signal to a transmitter. This information can be seen in the field with a head-mount display, or it can be retrieved downstream using other interfaces.
