Shock car crowned safest new vehicle in Britain – Mercedes A-Class 2019 scoops top prize

Mercedes’ A-Class was crowned the winner of WhatCar?’s Safety Award for 2019 this week.

The A-Class was perhaps a surprise winner as it beat a number of bulky SUVs to the top spot.

Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40, both SUVs, were the runners up in the annual awards, which are judged by a panel of experts and industry specialists.

A-Class pipped them to the title after it received an overall score of 90 per cent, the highest marks of any Euro NCAP vehicle tested in 2018.
