The Quarto Group signs the Vision for Literacy Business Pledge for a second year running

We’re delighted to be a signatory of the 2018 Vision for Literacy Business Pledge.

Now in its third year, the Vision for Literacy Business Pledge calls on the UK business community to help close the literacy gap and boost social mobility.

Launched by the National Literacy Trust, the Pledge has seen an increased business commitment to literacy over the past couple of years. Signatories pledge to help to raise literacy levels, boost the economy and improve social mobility by taking practical action in three areas: within their workforce, in their local community and at a national level.

54 businesses – including The Quarto Group – have already signed-up to the 2018 Vision for Literacy Business Pledge, and the National Literacy Trust is extending the call to all UK businesses. According to the National Literacy Trust, research for Read On. Get On. estimated that if every child left primary school with the reading skills they need, the UK economy could grow by more than £30 billion by 2025.  Poor literacy compromises employability, health, confidence and happiness and creates barriers to social mobility.

The Vision for Literacy Business Pledge aims to tackle this. At The Quarto Group, our mission is to educate, entertain and enrich the lives of adults and children around the world, so the Pledge is clearly aligned with our corporate values.

For the last year, we have been working towards fulfilling the commitments of the Pledge through launching The Quarto Foundation [Add link], an office-driven initiative which aims to support our local communities in areas that are close to our hearts and business – education and knowledge. Every Quarto office has chosen one local charity to support, raising money through mechanisms such as matched giving, in-kind donations and volunteering time. At corporate level, we match all fundraising, effectively doubling the amount of money going to the charities.
