First Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi: 8 things you may want to know

The 60,000-odd Hindu residents of Abu Dhabi will no longer have to travel out of the region to offer prayers. Abu Dhabi’s first-ever temple BAPS Hindu Mandir is all set to be inaugurated on 20 April. Here are 8 things you need to know about it:

With seven spires that represent the UAE’s seven emirates and five ornate domes, the temple sports every feature of a traditional Indian temple; it was built according to the ancient Hindu shilpashastras (Sanskrit scriptures of architecture).

Every corner and crevice made of pink stones from Rajasthan and marble from Macedonia are supposedly hand-carved by Indian artisans. These pieces of the temple were shipped to the UAE and assembled there.

Fox Marble Holdings PLC (LON:FOX) Alexandrian White marble is being used in the interior of the temple.
