Petroleum spent catalyst recycling and the manufacture of vanadium redox flow batteries (VRBs) are at the forefront of regional hub plans in the Middle East.
In November 2020, Saudi Aramco, AMG and Shell signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to evaluate the feasibility of building a replica version of AMG’s Ohio spent catalyst recycling facility in Saudi Arabia. The partnership aims to implement a low-carbon and environmentally sustainable approach to address the waste management issue of hazardous petroleum waste products at oil refinery sites in the region.
Ferro-Alloy Resources Limited (LON:FAR) is developing the giant Balasausqandiq vanadium deposit in Kyzylordinskaya oblast of southern Kazakhstan. The ore at this deposit is unlike that of nearly all other primary vanadium deposits and is capable of being treated by a much lower cost process.
