The University of Plymouth is helping up to 4,000 businesses a year to develop new products and help the environment – and some of those companies are changing the world right now.
Developing a vaccine for mastitis in cows
A university spin-out company secured a major grant to support the development of a vaccine to combat one of the main causes of mastitis in cows, E.coli. The Vaccine Group, which was co-founded by Dr Michael Jarvis, from the university’s Institute of Translational and Stratified Medicine in collaboration with commercialisation partner Frontier IP (who have worked with the university on a number of other spinout companies this year), will use the £50,000 grant from the global Bacterial Vaccine Network to run a proof-of-concept study.
The Vaccine Group, led by Dr Michael Jarvis, develops herpesvirus-based vaccines suitable for use in animals. They protect human health by targeting animal species carrying disease which can be transmitted to people. As at 8th August 2017, Frontier IP Group Plc (LON:FIPP) have a 21% holding in the company.
