The most active legal and financial advisers in the East of England deals market in the first half of 2017 have been named, as the region recorded a fall in the number of transactions.
An Experian report has revealed that a total of 264 deals were reported in the first six months of the year, a decline of 16 per cent from a year earlier. However this was not reflected in deal values, which rose year-on-year by 6 per cent to £13bn confirmed so far for 2017.
The East of England contributed to 8.2 per cent of the total number of transactions recorded in the UK.
RSM, Cenkos Securities and Grant Thornton were the region’s most active financial advisers by volume in the first half, each acting on five deals. Citigroup topped the value table advising on three transactions for a combined value of £4.4bn.
The most active legal advisers by volume in the six-month period were Freeths, which acted on ten deals, followed by Gateley Holdings PLC (LON:GTLY) and Mills & Reeve, who each worked on nine transactions.
Clifford Chance was the most active legal adviser in terms of value, having advised on Tesco’s £3.7bn acquisition of Booker Group.
Manufacturing was the main industry involved in transactions, with 79 deals announced. Professional services came in second place with 67 deals, just ahead of wholesale and retail trade in third position with 61 transactions.
