An annual Chritmas lecture series aimed at encouraging Scots pupils to consider careers in the growing cyber security sector will tour the country this week.
Supported by the Scottish Government, the festive Cyber Lectures are intended as fun and interactive talks on the the abundance of career opportunities within the industry.
As well as showcasing the rewarding jobs to be had, the lectures also raise awareness of the dangers of being online and will educate young people on how to protect themselves in an increasingly digital world.
“The threat of cyber security has been heightened recently due to a series of high-profile attacks like WannaCry, which have not only shocked the world but have actually encouraged businesses to sit up, listen and take cyber security seriously,” said Dr Martin Beaton, one of the event organisers.
“The cyber security sector is suffering from a chronic shortage of skilled professionals, which is where our lectures come in. They are fun, engaging and genuinely intend to inspire young people to consider a career in the cyber security industry.” Now in their sixth year, the lectures have reached over 12,000 young people across Scotland and will reach a further 3,000 this year as they travel across the country.
